Amaad Rivera-Wagner serves in the Wisconsin State Assembly representing Green Bay’s 90th District, as the first openly gay man of color in the State Legislature.
Before his election, he was Chief of Staff to Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich, where he prioritized housing initiatives and data-driven strategies to address growing economic inequality. During this time, he completed the Harvard Bloomberg City Leadership Initiative, a premier training program for senior municipal leaders.
Amaad’s career spans key policy and government leadership roles, including State Policy Director for U.S. Senator Ed Markey, Director of Housing Policy at the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and Program Officer for the Massachusetts Service Alliance managing an $11 million AmeriCorps portfolio. Earlier, as a City Councilor in Springfield, Massachusetts, he championed foreclosure protections, stopped a harmful biomass plant project, and expanded city services for non-English-speaking residents.
While serving in AmeriCorps, he also founded KidsVote in Holyoke, Massachusetts, expanding civic engagement in working-class communities. Locally, he co-chairs the Greater Green Bay Chamber’s Diversity Task Force and previously chaired the United Way of Brown County’s Non-Profit Advocacy Council.
Amaad holds a bachelor’s degree from Bentley University. He was raised by a teenage mother who experienced homelessness, he brings a deep, personal commitment to building stronger, more equitable communities. He lives in Green Bay’s Astor neighborhood with his husband and their two goldendoodles, Appa and Beau.
