Bernie Hoes has been teaching for 28 years. He currently works at Madison Area Technical College as an instructor in the English/Reading Department. He has served as the Department Co-Chair since 2022. He teaches composition courses that range from Academic to Workplace writing. He has been employed at Madison Area Technical College since 2001.
Bernie holds a BA and MA in English, and a MS in Education: Curriculum & Instruction. In 2013, Bernie was the recipient of the Distinguished Teacher of the Year. Additionally, he has received numerous teacher recognition awards during his tenure at Madison Area Technical College.
Bernie currently serves as the Board Vice President for Briarpatch Youth Services. He is also the Membership Co-Chair for 100 Black Men of Madison, Inc. Prior to Briarpatch Youth Services, Bernie served at Board President, and Community Representative, for Community Shares of Wisconsin. He also served as Board President for GSAFE, and as a Community Representative for the Community Advisory Council for the Overture Center.
