Alex's, located in the basement of the Clark Building, was a short-lived cruise bar for transient gay men arriving in Milwaukee.
While very little is known about Alex's, the bar is listed in Milwaukee City Directories from 1965 to 1970 as well as a national gay bar guide in 1970. It seems that Alex's, like Hunter's Club across the street, were not exclusively gay bars, but supportive welcome centers for visitors and new residents.
No trace of Alex's remains today, except the building entrance at 644 N. 7th St (now known as N. James Lovell Dr.) We have never been able to locate a single photo of this business, its signage, or its advertising.
