Auctioneer's Inn II, a Milwaukee-area location operated by Jeff Waldecker and George Prentice, only survived about six months.

Auctioneer's Inn II was owned by George Prentice and Jeff Waldecker.

At the height of its popularity, the Waldeckers decided to open a second location of their successful restaurant, complete with an adjoining nightclub, QuickSilver.

However, Auctioneer's Inn II only lasted a half year for reasons unknown.

George Prentice launched a long-lasting Milwaukee legacy when La Cage opened in March 1984.

However, Waldecker was later indicted and convicted for his involvement in the September 10, 1986 arson of The Telephone House (734 S. 2nd St.) The case, investigated by the FBI, Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Milwaukee Police Department, raged on for many years.

Auctioneer's Inn II featured a brass bank building entrance, from Colonel Hope Waldecker's collection, which was later installed at the 2nd and National entrance to La Cage. The penny-covered bar, another Auctioneer's trademark, would later inspire the penny bar at La Cage.

The second Auctioneer's Inn was demolished in the late 1980s. Its street sign survived -- and was repurposed at Organ Piper Pizza (4353 S. 108th St.)

Jeff Waldecker died of a heart attack in 2001. He was 50 years old.
