Club Marilyn was opened by restauranteur Danny Goumanos, who sought to give Milwaukee nightlife a shot of adrenaline. The club featured state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, three massive bars, two floors of dining, and a famous outdoor patio. When Singles Sundays failed to attract crowds, Goumanos launched an Alternative Teen Night in summer 1988 that changed the lives of countless LGBTQ youth forever. The space was reinvented as Metropolis, an all-alternative dance club, in June 1994.
