The Down Under Club, a gay bar in La Crosse, Wisconsin, opened in April 1977. The bar is remembered for "A Bar is Born," a three-day pride celebration, grand opening party, and "gay extravaganza" that drew over a thousand people. However, success was short-lived. Three weeks later, a fire severely damaged the establishment on April 24, 1977. Owner Patrick Trussoni quickly repaired and reopened the bar, which stayed in business until 1982. No photos exist of this business. The land was redeveloped for residential housing.
