The Finlandia Health Spa (aka Le Club Finlandia) was the first known gay bath house in Milwaukee. For 13 years, the venue was a refuge for men seeking men with private saunas, Swedish massages, and a "Roman" pool. As newer, more modern venues opened, the quality of Finlandia clientele declined. By August 1983, the AIDS crisis had decimated the business, and owner John DeWerd sold the property and closed down at year's end. Kingshead Salon, which started here in November 1968, now occupies the entire building.
