First Street Tavern, which opened in late 1981, was a Milwaukee bar that catered primarily to the levi/leather crowd. Owned by Larry Fleege and Leroy Stern, the tavern quickly formed an SSBL softball team and hosted events for local leather groups. According to a former bartender, the bar had a small but loyal clientele, including a surprising number of married heterosexual couples whose husbands would cruise while their wives waited at the bar. The tavern was also one of the first gay bars in the city to uncover its windows (after La Cage, but before M&M Club.)
