Fluid, a popular gay bar in Milwaukee, was opened in July 1998 by former Triangle bartenders Bill Wardlow and Jimmy Balistrieri. The space has been home to eight non-consecutive gay bars since December 1944. Fluid became locally famous for its "Cosmopolitan Nights" every Thursday, and for offering a full selection of martinis long before the Martini Craze. Although Jimmy exited the business, Bill maintained sole ownership and continues to run the highly successful bar today. Fluid is well-known for its welcoming atmosphere, community engagement, and spirited activism.
