The Manhole, opened by Joe Mallien and Mike Dziuba, was likely Northeastern Wisconsin's first gay leather bar. Located in a former horse stable, it became the original home of the Argonauts Leather Club and hosted their annual Winterfest from 1976 to 1981. Mark "Za" Mariucci, who later founded Quest magazine, was the DJ. After a successful five-year run, the owners relocated to 720 Bodart Way and reopened the bar as The Body Shop in June 1982. The original Manhole building has since been demolished and replaced with a bank parking lot.
