What happens when an old Brady Street family tavern "goes gay" at the height of gay liberation? Look no further than Martin's, which tried to be a neighborhood gay bar from 1974 to 1976. We still don't know who Martin was, and we don't know exactly when the bar closed. We do know that the bar interior looked and felt almost exactly as it does today. Martin's didn't last long. After four decades of ownership, the Gregorio family sold their tavern to Frank Tomasello, who reopened as "Nicky's" in 1976. Since 2002, the bar has been known as Jamo's.
