The Milwaukee Eagle, a leather/Levi bar, opened in the basement of the Sidney HiH building on November 22, 1997. It was extremely popular for two years, known for its dress code and dance floor. The bar hosted major regional leather contests. Its cavernous layout, dating back to its days as the Mine Shaft, inspired a cruise area known as The Shaft. After a fire ravaged the Sydney HiH, the Eagle temporarily closed and never really recovered. The bar closed forever on New Year's Day, 2000, and remained empty until the Sydney HiH was razed in August 2012.
