After a multi-million dollar renovation, the former Park Avenue reopened as Nitro in November 1992. Owned by Chicago brothers Bob and Ed Fisher, the venue was transformed into a 35,000-square-foot, three-story "industrial chic" dance club. Nitro drew especially large LGBTQ crowds on Sunday nights with alternative, techno, and dance DJs. The club offered live music, also, including Mary J. Blige and Cece Peniston in 1994. Starting in 1995, Nitro also offered "the city's largest underground underage alternative dance party" every Wednesday night. Nitro closed in early 1996. The building was converted to hotel use in 2020.
