From 1987 to 1999, the Red Corvette Nightclub was a popular Milwaukee nightclub with an enormous "boxing ring" dance floor and exotic male dancers. By 1995, the club was plagued with police citations for overcrowding, noise, and disorderly conduct. Since many customers came from the North Side, co-owner John Lemley felt these charges were racially motivated. In its final years, the bar launched a "Sunday Gay Nite," but this only attracted more negative attention from elected officials. A major March 1998 fire contributed to the club's decline and eventual closing in 1999. The building is no longer standing.
