We are proud to bring the rainbows home to Walker's Point, a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and supportive space for ALL residents and visitors for generations -- and an LGBTQ safe haven for over 80 years.
Please join us at La Cage (2nd and National) at 5 p.m. on Monday, October 6 for the official installation, commemoration, and celebration event, featuring guest speakers, meet and greet mixer, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This event will include elected officials, organizational leaders, local media, neighbors, friends, and FUN!
At 6 p.m., we will be taking an aerial photograph celebrating our diverse, colorful, and intersectional community -- and the spirit of total acceptance that makes Walker's Point a regional destination to live, play, work, and love. We welcome EVERYONE to join us -- and FILL THE STREET!
The crosswalks, designed by former Milwaukeean Jeremy Novy, will honor Jim Dorn, founder of Your Place (1965-1994,) the first gay bar in Milwaukee owned by a gay couple. Dorn and his partner Jerry Stinson created and held space for our community -- and helped countless gay men feel seen -- for many years before Stonewall.
Want to help? We are accepting tax-deductible donations to support design, installation, and maintenance costs are graciously accepted. In these challenging times, it is more improtant than ever that this project is 100% privately funded and 100% community-owned. Your donations benefit Jeremy Novy's efforts to amplify queer visibility worldwide.
More information to come as the date approaches!
We are thankful for the support of the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works, Crowley Construction, Walker's Point Association, Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, La Cage Nightclub, and generous individual donors who have stepped up to help our community BE SEEN.
