AIDS Information Milwaukee (AIM)

In 1988, Dan Gordon established AIDS Information Milwaukee (AIM), an educational group for individuals with HIV infection.

In spring of 1989, Dan was hired by the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW) as Business Manager. He devoted an enormous amount of effort to construct a sophisticated financial management system for the agency. Dan was promoted to Director of Administration and Finance.

Also in 1990, Dan was selected by the national PLWA organization for a scholarship to attend the International AIDS Conference in San Francisco. It was there that he was drawn to participate in the ACT UP demonstrations, which inspired him to return to Milwaukee and help build the Milwaukee ACT UP chapter.

Dan passed away on Friday, November 29, 1991, after being hospitalized for seven weeks due to AIDS-related complications.

AIM’s methods continue to be a part of the public response to AIDS. ARCW, now operating as Vivent Health, prioritizes HIV and AIDS education while providing prevention, clinical care, and social services for individuals diagnosed with HIV and AIDS. The group has expanded its services nationwide, with services in Denver, CO; Chicago, IL; Michigan; Kansas City, MO; St. Louis, MO; and Austin, TX; in addition to ten locations in Wisconsin.
