Founded in 2006, Women’s Voices Milwaukee has become a lasting part of Milwaukee’s LGBTQ arts community through choral music, seasonal concerts, and fundraisers.

In October 2005, Affinity Performing Arts began laying the groundwork for a new chorus to complement the success of Men’s Voices Milwaukee. The idea was to create a women’s ensemble that could offer its own musical voice while becoming part of Milwaukee’s growing LGBTQ choral community.

The first step came at the October 2005 Men’s Voices Milwaukee concert, which served as a fundraiser to help launch the new group. Over the following months, singers came together and the new chorus took shape.

Then, in June 2006, Men’s Voices Milwaukee announced that its upcoming concert would feature “special guests.” The announcement created a bit of suspense, but the surprise was soon revealed: the newly formed Women’s Voices Milwaukee took the stage for its debut performance.

For over 20 years, Women’s Voices Milwaukee has maintained a strong presence in Milwaukee’s LGBTQ arts community with seasonal shows and fundraisers.
