Very little is known about The Mayfair Lounge, which opened in the Hotel Northland in 1961. Listed in national gay bar guides for several years, the Mayfair was a classy cocktail lounge serving gay Green Bay before Stonewall. By 1976, the Spartacus American Bicentennial Gay Guide described it as "more straight than gay... popular with the older crowd," suggesting it was either more discreet than more liberated gay bars -- or had lost its gay luster in its later years. We welcome any available information about this location.
