When The Seaway Inn (744 N. Jefferson St.) was evicted and demolished for parking in July 1972, owner Otto Schuller moved to the emerging gay village on South 2nd Street. He split his operation between two vacant storefronts: 173 S. 2nd (Seaway Restaurant) and 196 S. 2nd (New Seaway.) The New Seaway didn't last long. Otto fell in love so hard with Jamie Gays, he gave him the bar to run as his own. The Seaway Inn's long run ended in December 1972 when Jamie's opened. However, the Seaway Restaurant continued until at least Easter 1974.
