For reasons unknown, the Nite Beat moved to 183 S. 2nd St. in 1969. Most women remember this location best -- as a dark, cavernous, and heavily smoky space with limited decor and even less ambience. This is also the only Nite Beat location that allowed women of color. After Stonewall, "butch vs. femme" was starting to fade away, and the next generation sought a less rigorous social space. In 1971, Nite Beat was one of the early advertisers in the GPU News, openly promoting a "Girl Bar""Where Women Meet." Although still married, Stan and Carrie's 13-year partnership ended in 1972, and Nite Beat briefly became "Carrie's" before closing forever.
