The Nut Hut was the longest-running women's bar in Milwaukee history. Kathy Krau evolved the neighborhood tavern -- opened by Sharon Dixon as Shorty's Party Room -- into a welcoming, inclusive, but distinctly women-first space that attracted a very diverse clientele. Known for its affordable prices, friendly atmosphere, and community involvement, it sponsored women's sports teams and hosted fundraisers. In 2011, Krau sold the bar to employees Michelle Murphy and Dawn Musbach. Citing changing neighborhood dynamics, the Nut Hut closed in 2014.
