Bobby Bell was a T.A. Chapman's designer, John Hawks Pub manager, brother of the creator of "Young & The Restless," and a Midwest nightlife personality. After closing the Red Baron, Bell opened Papagaio in December 1981. Inspired by Rio de Janeiro, the popular club hosted groundbreaking musical acts. Papagaio primarily catered to straight crowds, but reserved Wednesdays as gay nights. When the drinking age changed, Papagaio became Club New York in December 1986 before closing in August 1987. The building, believed since 1982 to be structurally unsound, was demolished in 1991.
