Paradise Books, which operated from 1976 to 2003, began as an adult bookstore before separating its businesses into a mainstream video store and an adult-only arcade. The store opened when the city was actively considering a "Combat Zone" in the Third Ward, which would have forced all adult businesses, including gay bars, to relocate there. This controversial plan was ultimately defeated by residents, including Isabel Polachek, who had a different vision for the neighborhood. We welcome any available information about this location.
