Sam Mazur extensively remodeled the Oregon House and reopened as The Phoenix in July 1978. It became an anchor of the South 2nd Street gayborhood, known for active dance floor, heavy cruising vibes, and popular bartenders. The bar experimented with changing times and emerging trends, introducing adult films, country music and "Anita's," an unofficial women's bar upstairs. After Sam Mazur's death, the Phoenix closed its doors in March 1993. Michelle attempted to reopen as Deja Vu, but the bar's best days were behind it.
