The Pier was a family supper club in downtown Wisconsin Dells that somehow became a queer hotspot. Pier matchbooks promised it was "Where the Action Is!" -- and the bar's active cruising scene was certainly noted in 1960s national gay guides. Owned by Peter and Dick Blatchley, The Pier opened in 1964 on the site of Steele's Old Pool Hall, a historic Dells landmark. The space was extensively modernized in 1973 and stayed open until at least 1982. From 1968 to 1970, the Blatchleys also operated Pier 2, a Top 40 dance club nearby. We welcome any available information about this location.
