Clientele Primarily Identified As
Gay, Black
The Pink Glove, a gay bar open for only 67 days in 1958, was one of Milwaukee's first "concept" gay bars. Owners Marvin and Harold Klein intentionally marketed to the gay community and were ahead of their time by allowing white and Black men to openly mingle. Despite a successful opening, the bar was plagued by high remodel costs, police raids, and undue attention from envious crime boss Frank Balistrieri. Ultimately, the city ordered it to close due to its reputation as a "homosexual hangout," with an informant suggesting the owner didn't pay for "proper protection" from local police.
