The Pink Pony, a North Avenue gay bar, was known for its seductive atmosphere, fancy decor, and specialized ice cream drinks. When Albert Tusa's Tic Toc Club collapsed in 1955, he took over the Pink Pony and made it a high-end cocktail lounge. The bar was described with subtle "wink-wink" gay references in nightlife articles. It was a favorite stop for lesbians before and after dancing at the nearby Big T. Despite deep neighborhood decline after 1967, including civil unrest, Park West Freeway clearance, and urban renewal, the Pink Pony survived until it was destroyed by arson in 1976.
