After 20 years as the popular lesbian bar Fannies, the struggling establishment reopened in October 2002 as Pulse. Owned by Sharon Dixon, Pulse was transformed from a women-only space into an all-inclusive gay bar. It briefly became a hub for western dancing and hosted a wide variety of themed nights, including classic rock, karaoke, Latin salsa, and sci-fi parties. Despite a positive reception and full-page advertisements, the bar was short-lived, with its last listing appearing in July 2004.
