PURR was a 2008 rebrand and relocation of Conversations, which operated on Villard Avenue from 2004 to 2007. Devon Duke sought to create a larger, more exotic space that captured her vision of innovation, creativity, and engagement. Thanks to Duke's intentional and protective creation of space, Purr became home to legendary Black drag shows and pageants during its lifespan, including Sunday night headliner shows with Dynasty Scott. Duke sponsored HIV/AIDS preventative outreach efforts, transgender support groups, anti-violence fundraisers, and community wellness programs. We welcome any available information about this location.
