R-Bar opened in July 1986 in Wausau, advertising itself as "Central Wisconsin's ONLY gay-owned and operated nightspot." Owned by "David and Dan," the bar became a local hotspot. After celebrating its third anniversary in July 1989, tragedy struck: a fire destroyed the Hotel Central on August 16, 1989. The owners, however, continued their work in the community by opening a new bar, Masquers, in December of the same year. We welcome any available information about this location and its owners.
