The Rainbow Room, opened in October 1999 by "Ed, Terry, and Jim," was a popular gay bar in Madison, Wisconsin. It was the fifth consecutive gay bar to occupy this address within three years. Located near the well-known Shamrock bar, Rainbow Room became a "sister bar" and an anchor of Capitol Square nightlife. The bar hosted shows, pageants, and parties, including popular stripper and drag events. In mid-2003, conflicting reports of its closure were met with new ownership and rebranding as "New Rainbow Room." The bar quietly closed in late 2004.
