Sam's, a Madison gay bar owned by "Sam," opened in 1979 and closed in May 1984. According to InStep Magazine, Sam was tired of the bar business and planned to move to Phoenix. Although a new owner was reportedly going to reopen the bar and "keep it gay," no new queer space ever opened at this address.
