After their son Danny abandoned his bar, R Place, his parents, Mike and Nancy Newman, reopened the business as Scandals on March 1, 1997. Located next to the popular Shamrock Bar & Grille, Scandals was described as a "great place to party," featuring a backroom dance floor and fireplace. However, the Newmans were not especially committed to trunning a gay bar, and sold to Kirby Sheldon only seven months later. The bar was then renamed Kirby's Klub.
