The Sugar Shack, a lesbian-owned and operated bar, was opened by JoAnn Kilsdonk and Sharon Dixon in May 1975. It was the first lesbian bar for and by women in the state of Wisconsin. The bar was incredibly popular, attracting women from across the Midwest who were thrilled to have a space of their own. After Kilsdonk and Dixon separated, the bar became "DK's" by February 1984 and later The Triangle in 1988.
