The Lark was a queer space in downtown Wausau that advertised in the LGBTQ media from 1973 to 1977. Owned by Cecil and Eleanore Charboneau, and managed by their son Curtis for awhile, the Lark opened as a country western bar in the 1960s. In 1973, Debbie McCarthy took over the bar and changed to a much more mixed gay-straight crowd. Despite its success, The Lark was never quite as popular as The Pit. After Cecil's death in 1989, The Lark closed forever. The property was later razed to make way for the Jefferson Inn complex. The last known photograph of the building was taken in 2002. We welcome any available information about this location.
