Van Domes was the first venture of Milwaukee nightclub king Tom Wackman. Van Domes was a new concept for its time: the club played rap, R&B, dance chart, and techno music -- each with its own night and its own local DJs. The cutting-edge music, unlike anything heard elsewhere, attracted a young and hip gay crowd. By the time Van Domes found its following, Wackman surrendered to noise complaints, moved the club to 76th and Bradley, and lost the gay clientele.
