After being discharged from the Navy due to his sexual identity, Jim Dorn became a famous local hairdresser, but he always dreamed of owning his own bar. In May 1965, he opened Your Place with his parents and his partner Jerry Stinson. Your Place was the first gay bar in Milwaukee owned by a gay couple. For three decades, it provided a higher-end experience than most Milwaukee gay bars. Dorn's commitment to his community was unprecedented. After retiring, Dorn sold Your Place and moved to Florida. Ironically, the bar became a gentlemen's club in 1994.
