In 1979, Milwaukee gay bar owners formed BAM as a coalition to advance advocacy, fundraising and community building at a time when gay business owners had limited political power.

The Business Association of Milwaukee (BAM) was formed by local bar owners to advance collective bargaining power, economies of scale, and cost/resource efficiencies. Eventually, BAM organized social functions, including awards dinners, fundraisers, and bar crawls to Madison and Chicago.
The founding fathers of BAM were Bob Schmidt (M&M Club), Chuck Cicirello (Factory,) Wayne Bernhagen (Wreck Room), and Paul DeMarco (Club Baths.)
It is unknown why BAM disbanded in 1985. We welcome any available information about this organization.
